Ever find the coolest hidden gem in your town and think: OMG, everyone needs to come here?

That’s what happened last week when my friend took me to Bluebonnet Beer Company.

Gotta admit, I was pretty skeptical at first. She drove through all these neighborhoods and then into and industrial park. We turned into a parking lot where about 25 people were sitting outside a garage.

I thought she might have taken me some place to steal my kidneys!

Bluebonnet Beer Company in Round Rock, TX - an up and coming local brewery with a very inspiring story.

Bluebonnet Beer Company

The Bluebonnet Beer Company is the brain child of a Round Rock, TX couple, David and Clare Hulama. David always had a fascination with yeast after taking a science course in college. He had a dream to craft his own beers, but that takes time and lots of study to become certified…and with 3 kids who has the time.

When their youngest was in elementary school, they decided it was now or never. David quit his job and moved to California to study beer making. He came home full of ideas, but life (and bills) sent him back to his job.

Eventually the company where both David and Clare worked offered a pay out for anyone willing to move on. They decided that Clare should take it. They put that money into what they now call Bluebonnet Beer Company and haven’t looked back.

Growing, Growing, Growing

Being someone with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, I LOVED this store (and of course wanted to immediately open my own brewery). I love seeing people realize their dreams…especially locals…it makes me feel as if all my hard work will eventually be realized too.

Their little brewery is definitely getting on the map quickly. In the short 7 months that they’ve officially been open for business, they’ve already had to upgrade their equipment to meet demand…and are getting ready to do it again!

Right now they are just in an industrial park, but they have bigger plans! Other local businesses are starting to take notice and asking to stock their beer (anyone heard of Whole Foods???).

Check It Out

They have a tasting room that is open from 5-8pm every Friday and Saturday and you can check out their beer at the tasting room in Whole Foods at the Domain as well. They usually have a food truck during those hours too (another local start up whose kids go to my kids school is there most wekends, Sweet n Cheezy).

Check out Bluebonnet Beer Company and watch for them to make it to your area soon! And if you’re local, grab your kids and your dog and go hang out where everyone knows your name! You won’t be sorry!

You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
